Media Criticism Web Assignment 2 • Fall 2008
This assignment will be a group research project presented on the Media Criticism Wiki. For it, you will research media conglomerates. Your research should include:
- A list of US conglomerates, linked to sub-pages off the Industry page
- A breakdown of their holdings, both vertically and horizontally
- Recent high-profile activities, including the international stage
- Political affiliations (lobbying, special interest, court decisions, etc.)
- Several recent sources for facts, statistics, analysis, etc. (presented on the site’s works cited page)
- Analysis based on your understanding of the industries and research conducted
The idea is to present information (facts) about the conglomerates and provide a reasoned analysis (opinions) about the facts. By knowing what the culture industries are up to, we can make more informed decisions about our consumption.
Two grades will be given: one for the whole project and one to individual contributors. A group proposal that breaks down individual responsibilities will be due by the end of scheduled class on 10/14.
Project due: 10/28 by the start of class.
