ENGL 1101: Writing Second Life

Macon State College • ENGL 1101

Second Life IconIn this special section of ENGL 1101, we will be focusing on composition in and about the virtual world Second Life. We will create avatars, make objects, hold some classes online, build structures, meet new people, and have fun. We’ll do all of this while learning the essentials of composition.

Students will learn how to analyze and critique identity construction; to write at a competent college level; to cite proper support for suppositions; to examine and think critically; to increase their confidence in all forms of written discourse. Through various class readings, blog entries, discussions, and individual guidance, students will practice and develop integral skills for the communication and inference of ideas both written and verbal.

Please Note: This is a special, hybrid section of English Composition taught using Second Life. Therefore we will be relying heavily on computers everyday in class and for your homework to complete the course requirements, and we will sometimes bee meeting solely online. If you find computers challenging or you simply do not like them, I would recommend considering another section. Please feel free to email me if you have any questions. More detail and course login are on Earthshine.
