As we draw to a close of our Writing for Digital Media class, you have a couple more assignments to accomplish. These include a an audience analysis, a self evaluation, and final thoughts.
First, you should submit an audience evaluation to me. If you have not done so already, read Kimball, pages 46 through 48. The last page has a check list for analyzing your audience. I hope you thought about this already when you were initially constructing your portfolio. You task here is to consider how well you did in targeting your portfolio to your particular audience. Consider these questions in your analysis:
- Who are your users, specifically?
- What do you want your visitors to think when they leave your site? Do they?
- How accessible is your site? That is, what particular resources did you use to make your site more usable?
- What particular aspects of your web site did you use to target your specific audience? Be specific (search, images, navigation, etc.).
- What particular design aspects (see Williams) were most important to your when considering your site’s audience?
- What CMS did you choose and how did your analysis of audience influence your choice? Any regrets?
- How often do you update your site? Is this consistent with other professionals in your field?
- Are there other sites that influenced the design of your site? Why?
- What Web 2.0 integration do you use to appeal to your target audience?
- Out of 10, how well do you feel you accomplished targeting your audience?
Consider this analysis as a final exam of sorts. Show me what you learned.
When you have completed your analysis, you should also fill out the self-evaluation (PDF). Your analysis should be at least two typed pages, and it and your self evaluation may be submitted to me as an RTF attachments in an email. When I receive these documents, I will do my final evaluation of your portfolio. Do not submit these documents until your portfolio is ready. A good way to judge whether or not your portfolios ready is to look at your grades and be sure you finish any assignment that you might be missing.
Finally, I would appreciate any suggestions and/or praise you have for this class. I would like everyone to submit something using the “Feedback” tab on the right, even if it is just to say what you learned or what you wish you had learned. Thank you for your thoughtful consideration.
