Fall 2009: Ready to Go

Over the last week, I have designed all my courses and redesigned this web site. I wanted it more user-friendly, so I put the main sections on the front page, and moved the blog to a secondary place of importance. I really think it will work better for this sort of content site. There’s a new slider for featured content that’s pretty cool, too.

I also updated the Moodle server on the Humanities site: Humanites Online. I still have to add my sections on to the server, but that can happen on Monday, or Sunday night if I get to it.

Finally, I hope to update the main Humanities site soon as well. I’m tired of the design, and I’d like the major content to appear on the front page, much like LM. Hopefully, I’ll get to that this week.

MSC Humanities Online

The back-end server for LitMUSE has a new home: MSC Humanities Online. It’s still running Moodle, but I just switched servers: from an old Linux server to a new Apple Xserve. So, if you’re looking for the old login, you won’t find it. Go to the new site, and use the same login name and password you used on LitMUSE. You can also click on the “MSC Humanities Online” button on the side, or the link to the right under “Students.” Email me if you have any questions or difficulties.

LitMUSE Moodle Server Down

I’m performing some upgrades to the Moodle server, so it will be down for about 24 hours. I’m updating the Debian install, and I’ll get to the latest version of Moodle this week. Thanks for your patience.

LitMUSE now has a companion server on the Macon State campus. This server will run Moodle to handle courses for me and various colleagues.

Earthshine

The name LitMUSE represents the goals and focus of this site. “Lit” stands for both literature and literacy, and “MUSE” is both an acronym for Multi-User Simulated Environment and the Greek word for the fount and guarantor of memory. With a focus on promoting technological literacy within an information culture, LitMUSE hopes to bring traditional humanistic education into the digital age.

The site you’re currently reading is the front end, featuring resources for Dr. Lucas’ students. LitMUSE also has a Moodle server for students. The name LitMUSE represents the goals and focus of this site. “Lit” stands for both literature and literacy, and “MUSE” is both an acronym for Multi-User Simulated Environment and the Greek word for the fount and guarantor of memory. LitMUSE exists with the hope that VR communities can enrich our relationships online and can positively influence RL.

This site serves to make accessibility to education easier for higher education by making course materials readily available to students and other educators. LitMUSE was born as a MOO, but has metamorphosed into a learning environment that runs the CMS Moodle. It now functions as teaching support for Dr. Gerald Lucas, Assistant Professor of English, Macon State College.
