Welcome to those of you registered for my first session summer 2009 course Technology and the Creative Artist. I know it’s early yet, but I wanted to let you know a couple of things.

This course will meet entirely online. We will have no face-to-face meetings at all. This is due to the fact that I must be out of town for most of the duration of the course. Detailed instructions will follow.

I have posted the required texts on the course web site. This is also where I will be posting the rest of the course information soon. You might want to get started with these. We will likely take this in this order: Stephenson, Murray, Hayles, Jenkins, and Lessig.

There will be two major course requirements: online discussion of the assigned texts and a new media research project that will address a major concern of the course; i.e, how art is necessarily changing in the face of networked digital technologies. Basically, the only thing I will not accept for the project is a traditional paper. You might want to begin thinking about this.

That’s about it for now. Keep checking back to this web site (you may want to subscribe to the RSS feed) for the latest information. I will also be sending more emails as necessary. I hope to have the class ready to go in a couple of weeks, so you can get started at any time. More soon.
